ASGSR History
The American Society for Gravitational and Space Research (ASGSR) was originally established in 1984 by our Founders as the American Society for Gravitational and Space Biology (ASGSB). In 2011, the name of the Society was updated to ASGSR in order to align more closely with NASA’s biological and physical sciences organization and to broaden & strengthen the connections across our diverse space research community. ASGSR is organized exclusively for purposes to:
- Promote research, education, training and development in the areas of gravitational and space biological and physical process, and to apply the knowledge gained to a better understanding of gravity and other space environmental factors.
- Promote the importance of understanding the role of gravity on biological and physical systems within terrestrial and space environments.
- Educate the next generation of biological and physical science researchers and technology developers.
- Disseminate information on gravitational space research and apply this research to the solution of terrestrial and space problems
- Provide a forum for international scientific exchange of basic and translational biological and physical science research among professionals across government, business, academia and other segments of society involved in gravitational and space biological and physical science research and applications.
ASGSR has a rich history of over 40 years, organizing our community and advocating for gravitational & space research that has contributed substantially to our U.S. space science and exploration priorities and missions, and will continue to contribute into the future. We celebrate and share our history in a number of ways, including through awards and recognition, maintaining archives of past meetings & publications, and showcasing the prominent events, people and traditions of our Society and its past.
